Diya Gopalan is a Bharatanatyam disciple of Smt. Gayatri Sriram, founder of Shruti Laya Dance School Singapore, and Smt. Minal Prabhu, founder of Mudrika Foundation Bangalore. Diya was first introduced to the art form at the age of six and completed her arangetram in 2012, after which she has given a range of solo and group performances, lecture demonstrations, and fundraising recitals in Singapore and India. Diya is the recipient of the esteemed Balasaraswati Award for Dance from Sri Krishna Gana Sabha and was bestowed the Upcoming Artiste of the Year title at Samarpana, The Asian Festival of Classical Dance, Singapore. She has also received critically acclaimed reviews in publications such as The Hindu and narthaki.com by Dr. Sunil Kothari, India’s foremost dance critic.
Now living in Singapore, Amulya has always had a deep connection with the arts and will be attending Parsons School of Design, The New School in New York City to further her artistic studies and pursue her interests in Indian heritage and historical forms of art.
